Easter – An Ever Expanding Hub

Many people believe that Easter is a time when the Easter bunny comes and visits your home and leaves Easter eggs or chocolate eggs as a gift. But many people don’t realize the true meaning of Easter and what it actually represents. Easter is a religious time of year which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, and the eggs that we receive as a gift actually represent the beginning of new life. However Easter is not just a one day celebration, in fact the entire Easter celebration actually lasts for 50 days, from Holy Thursday and ending on Pentecost Sunday.
The main memorable days within Easter are as follows Shrove Tuesday (pancake Tuesday) which as the name suggests is a day when families around the world enjoy themselves to a lunch packed with nothing but pancakes. Next is Good Friday which for Christians is a day to remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus, however for non-religious people this means a bank holiday and a day off work and school. The final day is Easter Monday which allows for another bank holiday.
Whilst Easter is generally regarded as the most important event in the Christian calender, the opportunities for businesses to make huge profits are obvious. Chocolate eggs are the novelty gift of choice for Easter for both little kids and big kids! Even the notion of the simple chocolate egg has evolved over the last several years, everything from cream eggs to eggs containing gifts. Take the humble Cadbury’s Creme egg; it is the most popular chocolate egg sold worldwide. Since it started in 1971 the creme egg brand has now expanded into the ice cream market with cones, tubs and ice cream sticks. Did you know approximately 90 million eggs are sold within the UK each year? In 2012 there were 45% new Easter chocolate products then the previous year helping to bring in sales of around £500 million per year.
How does network science fit into all this? simple; Easter has always been around and throughout its continuous celebrations, Easters hub with all of the various content such as Easter eggs, Easter bunnies, Easter egg hunts, egg decorating, has allowed for its hubs authority to grow and grow.
What will the Easter bunny bring you this year?
