Why Keywords Are Key

Keywords are the most important SEO element for every search engine, they are the light that an engine fumbles through the dark to find, shimmering with that distant keyword glow. The most vital first step to having a successful SEO campaign is selecting the right keywords. In order to determine what are the correct keywords for your campaign, you must do some in-depth research into your target market and your industry: what keywords your competitors have chosen, an analysis of what the online population are searching for and what keywords you think best reflect your service or product.

With the growth of the internet and the strategic implication of outdated SEO campaigns and strategies; the times of boosting rankings within one week are gone. For instance if you are a florist you will be getting nowhere in rankings if you are using “florist” or “florists” as your keyword. Instead if you broaden your thinking and expand on this for instances adding location or speciality then this will put you in a much better position. Branch out (pardon the tree reference here) and think of keywords or phrases which relate to floristry; weddings, valentines bouquets, wreaths, leaving gifts, anniversary presents, etc.
Keywords can be like a word association game, if the word the player selects is solicitors there is no point screaming horse, buttercup, chopsticks… because you will never get the word. Keywords are something that describes the overall product and sub-sections of that product. It’s about being creative as well as logical. If you think outside the box and write varied and quality content you are likely to see a return on more searches and in turn be more successful in attracting traffic and ultimately sales.
If you have a strong working knowledge of your target clientele/audience then you should know what they are searching for. Marrying this knowledge with your content and having keyword tools like Google Adwords to perform the ceremony your brand will live happily ever after.
